Problem
Where do the Canaanites dwell?
In Numbers 14 there is a clear contradiction. Verse 25 says the Canaanites dwell in the valley, verse 45 says the Canaanites dwell in that hill. Which is it?

Numbers 14:25 (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.
Numbers 14:45 Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.

Both. The hill is located in the valley. Notice the hills are different than the surrounding mountains mentioned in Numbers 13:17 and Numbers 14:40.

Also, see the description of the land in Deuteronomy 11:11 "But the land, wither ye go to possess it, is a land of hills and valleys, and drinketh water of the rain of heaven:"

So, the valleys have hills which are different from the surrounding mountains and the Canaanites and the Amalekites dwelt in both the valleys and the hills. No contradiction.
