In Matthew it says that the soldiers gave Jesus "vinegar to drink mingled with gall," but in Mark it says that "they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh." What did they give Jesus to drink? | Date: Jan 15, 2008 By: Adam Engesath 31 Problems29 Solutions | References | | Mark 15:23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not. | | Matthew 27:34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink. | | User Solutions/Comments | | Date: Jun 15, 2008 | Posted By: Christian_Responses | | This contradiction is based on ignoring the context. They first gave Jesus wine mingled with myrrh, but Jesus did not recieve it, which means he did not taste it (Mark 15:23), in other words it must have gotten spilled or something before they gave it to Jesus so they got another drink for him, which was vinegar mingled with gall, and this time he did drink it and he did tasted it and did not drink it. It's talking about different drinks given to Jesus at the time at different points of time. No Contradiction. | | Post a solution! |
