Tatian
Church father · 2nd century
An Assyrian who was Justin Martyr’s student in Rome, later returning east. About 170 he wove the four Gospels into one narrative, the Diatessaron, which the Syriac churches read in place of the separate Gospels until the 5th century. The original is lost; it is known from later translations, chiefly an Arabic one (the one quoted here), and from Ephraem’s commentary.
