What the Bible Says

  • “at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day” Exodus 12:41

Each year here fits these numbers, as the years between the points they count from.

The Years

The Year 1491 BC
“being the compleat terme of 430 years, from the first pilgrimage of their ancestors”

Ussher counts the four hundred and thirty years of the sojourning (Exodus 12:40) from Abram’s departure out of Haran, as Galatians 3:17 counts from the promise: two hundred and fifteen years in Canaan, and two hundred and fifteen in Egypt.

Dated by Archbishop James Ussher’s Annals of the World (1658), quoted as printed, whose dates were printed in the margins of King James Bibles for two centuries.
