What the Bible Says

  • “the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon” Judges 8:28

Each year here fits these numbers, as the years between the points they count from.

The Years

Began 1245 BC
Ended 1236 BC
“So soon as Gedeon was dead, the Israelites falling back to Idolatrie”

Ussher’s margin prints no year for Gideon’s deliverance: it is seven years after Midian came (Judges 6:1), and the forty years of quietness (Judges 8:28) run from Deborah’s. The margin beside it, the fourth Jubilee, prints 2759 for 2756 (the Julian Period and the year before Christ beside it are 2756’s).

Dated by Archbishop James Ussher’s Annals of the World (1658), quoted as printed, whose dates were printed in the margins of King James Bibles for two centuries.
