Tetrarch of Galilee · About 1 BC–AD 39
The Years
- Began 1 BC
- From Herod’s death in 1 BC. Ussher: 4 BC

- “sent Herod to Lyons in France, condemning him to perpetual banishment”
Herod being tetrarch of Galilee (Luke 3:1) from his father's death, early in 1 BC (his coins count from 4 BC; see Archelaus), who beheaded John (Mark 6:27) and set the Lord at nought (Luke 23:11). Caius banished him to Lyons.
Where the year isn’t Ussher’s, the text sets it, and the note says how. Ussher’s years and sentences are from his Annals of the World (1658), quoted as printed.
