The Years
- The Year AD 11
- “When he was twelve years old” (Luke 2:42). Ussher: AD 7
- “Christ in the twelfth year of his age being brought to Jerusalem by Joseph and Mary”
The KJV is the final authority: "when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast" (Luke 2:42). Born in the autumn of 3 BC, he was twelve at the Passover of AD 11. Ussher puts it at the Passover of AD 7: "Christ in the twelfth year of his age being brought to Jerusalem by Joseph and Mary".
Where the year isn’t Ussher’s, the text sets it, and the note says how. Ussher’s years and sentences are from his Annals of the World (1658), quoted as printed.
