Apostle · About AD 28–67
The Years
- Began AD 28
- After John was cast into prison (Matthew 4:12), the year after the baptism. Ussher: AD 31
- “he makes them fishers of men”
- Ended AD 67
- “Peter also suffered Martyrdom at the same time with him”
From his call by the sea of Galilee after John was cast into prison (Matthew 4:12, 18-19), AD 28; Ussher’s is AD 31. The Lord signified by what death he should glorify God (John 21:18-19), and Peter knew that he must shortly put off his tabernacle (2 Peter 1:14); Ussher puts his death at Rome with Paul's, from Dionysius of Corinth.
Where the year isn’t Ussher’s, the text sets it, and the note says how. Ussher’s years and sentences are from his Annals of the World (1658), quoted as printed.
